Four Mile Long Run
I ran in daylight again today. I had a slow and easy four miles. Stating to build back up my long runs. I went out around 7:30am and it was already pretty hot and humid. I tried my best to keep my heart rate as low as I could. The last mile it was too high, but I was struggling to keep the pace slow without walking. I don’t think people talk enough about how hard running easy is. HR training is a little more mentally challenging than I was expecting. I’ve been trying to pay closer attention to my heart rate on easy days. My paces are substantially slower…

Two Mile HOT run and Leg Day After Bedtime
I slept in this morning! After more unpacking I didn’t want to push my allergies. We spent the morning at my brothers while the kids played on their blowup waterslide. They had a blast! Then we ran some more house errands and did some more wonderful house work. Can you pick up in the sarcasm. I’m over it. Ha! We are very close. I kind of regretted the sleeping in decision when I went out around 5ish in 90 degrees feels like 98. But I actually enjoy a good sweat so I’ll take it! It was also nice to run in some daylight and get some sun! I then waited…

Two Mile Recovery Run. With a Buddy!
My allergies kept me up coughing most of the night. Can’t wait until construction is over and we can be all cleaned and settled! I went out for a short and slow two mile recovery run. I brought the puppy for a mile of it. I need to build up his mileage because she did so good on the new running lease I got. I think she would make a great running partner! After my run I did an Upper body lift. Pull day. And ended with some pelvic floor abs. We then spent the rest of the day cleaning, organizing and unpacking. We snuck away for a little…

Finally Some Speed Work!
Speed work happened this morning! I did hit snooze a few times and it was a battle to get myself out of bed. BUT we made it out the door! The workout was short and sweet, but I still had to keep talking myself into keep going. I am slowly adding in more speed work and I want to keep the progression slow and steady. My goal is to do this build up and training as smart as possible. I am over the cycle of yo-yo training! I did a one mile warm-up. 3×400 with a 400 walk/jog recovery and then a half mile cool-down (which ended up being a…

Active Rest Off Day. Two Mile Walk
Today was supposed to be a speed work day. I went to bed last night knowing that the morning run might not happen. I have been dealing with some allergies that have gotten pretty bad. We are renovating our house and had to move into the chaos before it was really done. While doing some unpacking and cleaning I got either sawdust or drywall pieces in my eye. They have been red and burn on and off all day, but are worse in the morning and at night. When I woke up my eyes were closed shut by crust from the night. Almost like pink eye symptoms. I decided I…

Easy Two Miles and Leg Day
It was easier to get out of bed this morning! Riding that high! Went for an easy two miles. HR under 145. My pace is definitely slower in the morning. I think that is in part due to the fact that my heart in elevated because I am running in the dark. Whatever the reason. I am going to keep it up. I run with the Apple Watch right now. I know that the HR monitor on the wrist isn’t the most accurate. But I am going to use that now until I invest in a HR monitor. I used to run with a Garmin and I loved it. I…

Operation Fast 5k Round 2
I am back to operation fast 5k. This will be operation fast 5k round 2! A few days ago I did a 5k time trial. It wasn’t a true test, but it did give a solid starting point. I went early in the morning and fasted, but I will take it. I have a huge goal to take a lot of time off of that initial time! I am excited about the grind. My current plan is to do seven weeks of training. Another 5k Time Trial. One down week. Then find a race either six or seven weeks out and give it my all! My goals are lofty and…

5k Interval Workout for Beginners
Below you will find a 5k Interval Workout for Beginners. I think it is important for all runners at all levels, abilities, and with all goals to incorporate speed work into their training routine. As a general rule 80% of your training should be at an easy level. Think conversational pace and 20% should be work harder than easy pace. Think intervals, tempo runs, anything that raises your heart rate higher than Zone 2 easy training. Below is a simple 5k workout that you can add in once a week or every other week to your training to give intervals a try. Even if your goals are not to improve…
