Workout Wednesday
Finally. Back at it. Workout Wednesday Success! I took some NyQuil last night to try and kick the last of my cough and get a good night sleep. I woke up in that hazy fog and it was in it all day. Nutrition was terrible. I snacked on junk food all day. I just couldn’t seem to get full, and nothing was working to curb the cravings. It had all the markings of a bad day. But I knew I needed to just at least start the workout and see how it went. I opted to do the workout on the treadmill to make sure I kept a consistent pace.…

Should mental health off days be a thing?
Mental health off days are something I go back and forth about. The saying of “You will never regret a workout” or “you will never regret a run” are usually something I usually buy into. Usually if I am having an off day, or just a rough day. A workout helps. It turns the entire day around. Discipline over motivation is also something I live by. Your future self will thank your past self. I am still very much a believer in that. HOWEVER, I am also a believer in listening to your body. Your body includes your mind. Check in with your realistically. Do you not want to do…

Easy miles are getting harder.
We have hit the turning point in training where my former hard pace to hit is now my easy pace and it’s hard to hit again. The easy miles are getting harder. I failed on my long run today. But I believe I failed for good reason. My body is running on empty. Little sleep, sickness and high stress. I decided that the current stress on my body was enough, it didn’t need the long run stress on top of that. Getting better at listening to my body. I did get out for three miles. It was supposed to be an easy run. Goal was to keep the heart rate low.…

No Voice and Urgent Care
Welp the long run today didn’t happen. I officially have no voice, which I think is from stress and not from getting or being sick. I started losing my voice yesterday and it’s pretty much completely gone this morning. My poor toddler woke up feeling worse than the last few days. Instead of a run I took him for a long walk so he could take a nap in the stroller. I was planning to get my long run in a little later in the day. When my toddler woke up from his nap he was grabbing at his ears. Off to urgent care we went. Ended with a double…

Unexpected 5k
Last 5k Time Trial Recap HERE I decided against a tempo run today and instead to run by feel. It turned into an unexpected 5k. I was going to try for either two semi quick miles or four really really slow miles. All depending on how I felt when I started. Last night was another rough night of sleep for our sick kids. Running on about two hours of broken sleep and minimal water, I didn’t expect this run to go well. I decided I would run the first mile by feel, not look at my watch. I ended up running faster than expected and felt great. I did the…

Will the sickness ever end!
I have found myself saying multiple times a day for the last few weeks, will the sickness ever end? I have been lucky and only have a slightly dry throat. Hopefully it stays that way. I am however behind on sleep and recovery. Two sick toddlers is no joke! On the training plan today was a 45 minute run with 20min at tempo pace. I had high hopes for a slightly faster tempo than last week. The weather is perfect for a fast workout. I decided that stress is high, sleep is at a minimum and everyone around me is sick. I’ll take my short walk with the kids as…

PSA: Pedestrians Have The Right Away!
PSA (Public Service Announcement) Pedestrians still have the right away. Especially in a cross walk with a walk signal. I went out for an easy four miles today. I made it two, and was almost run over twice. After the second almost run over I called it quits. Decided I didn’t want to die today. Both times were in a cross walk with a walk signal, and the person turning made eye contact with me before I started to run, and then they gunned it to turn. It was truly unbelievable. The two miles I did run felt effortless and like I could run forever. That was encouraging. As the…

Treadmill Speed Workout
Another successful speed work! I originally planned to do 3×800 with 3 min walk/jog rest in between. I did it on the treadmill and definitely ran longer then 800m per interval. I ran at a certain pace until my watch went off. At the end my watch had me running 3.17 and the treadmill had me at 3.50. Next time I will follow the treadmill and just write down my times. I am trying to break away from needed the stats on my watch. It is a hard habit to break. It is part of the reason I switched from Garmin to Apple Watch. I wanted less emphasis on the stats…

Rest Day & Faster After Kids
Today was a rest day. My mind and body needed it. I haven’t slept great in the last few weeks. With the kids being sick, a few days of solo parenting and a little extra life stress my body needed it. I did take the kids on an extra slow three mile walk. The main reason for the walk was to get at least one of the kids a nap. It was mission accomplished! Tomorrow is a speed workout and I can’t wait! Faster AFTER Kids. Moms Are Superhuman. I honestly believe that my fastest times are ahead of me. I might have to move up in distance…from my 800…

Successful Long Run
Today was a successful long run! I woke up feeling sick. After the disappointment of last nights run I knew I wanted to at least get out for something. I decided I would run at least two miles out, if they felt bad I would call the run and walk home. When I got to the two mile mark I still felt good. I ran out to the three mile mark. At the turn around point I was still feeling good. I decided at that point that I wanted to finish even if it was slow. The final result was six miles, no walking breaks. The final two miles were…
