Are Running Streaks Good or Bad?
I ask myself this question often. Are Streaks Good or Bad. Mostly in reference to fitness. I’ve tried running streaks in the past (see HERE). They always tend to lead to burn out and taking too much time off and starting from scratch again weeks or months later. Most recently I got an Apple Watch. I switched from my Garmin because I wanted the ability to leave with my kids and not carry my phone but still feel like I could call for help. I also made the switch because I was becoming to hyper focused on stats and needed a break. Fast forward 88 days later and I’m sick…

Walk Bike and Lift
Today was supposed to be a speed day. A toddler up all night and slight dehydration after my easy run caused a change of plans. I spent the morning deep cleaning the house. Once the kids started to get too restless we went for a walk. I was a little over 1.5 miles out on the trail, when I noticed the tire of the double stroller. The walk home was a struggle. I ended the night with a bike ride and a lift. It was my first ride with the Apple fitness app. It was different than peloton but was still a good workout. This particular workout was all intervals…

Easy Run & Walk
On the schedule today was an easy run, and I added in a walk. I was planning to do my run later in the day, then around 2:30 one of the kids needed a nap. We took the nap outside on the walk! Todays workout was a four mile easy run. A few walking breaks were added in to keep my heart rate under 150. I am starting to think the heart rate on the apple watch might be a little off. I wasn’t breathing hard and the effort felt easy, but my heart rate didn’t indicate that. Could have also been because of the heat and humidity. Either way…

Tempo Monday
I forgot Monday was Halloween until it was too late to do a morning workout. Fail. I opted for a little bit of a shorter tempo run on the treadmill after trick or treating with the kids. I surprisingly felt pretty decent. I did a five minute warm-up at about 10:30 pace and then a 10 minute tempo run at 8:34 pace followed by a five minute cool down at 10:00 pace. I followed up the run with about 9 minutes on the bike. I have added in some biking after runs recently to help with increasing my cadence. It is yet to be determined if it is working. I…

Resetting and Getting Back Focused.
The last few days were perfect for resetting and getting back focused. I have spent time tonight writing out my training plan from tomorrow until my 5k on Thanksgiving. Life has been crazy, between visitors, and camping. It was time to reset and be present with the kids. I did stay consistent. I still ran easy and walked a lot. I don’t feel like I gained any fitness in the past few days, but I don’t think I lost any either. Friday: after a day at Disney my legs were sore and my body was tired. Then we packed it up and headed to the campground. I did get in…

Easy Run and Day at Disney
Morning started with an easy three mile run and ended with a day at Disney. My legs are spent! Hopefully I wake up tomorrow feeling better! I did an easy three miles on the treadmill this morning before we left. My Apple Watch seems to get the distance correct if I run at pretty much the same speed the whole time. My goal today was to keep my heart rate below 140 and closer to 130. I did have to stop and walk a few times to make sure it stayed low. Overall it was mission accomplished. I then failed with hydration and eating today at Disney, but we had…

Workout Wednesday
Finally. Back at it. Workout Wednesday Success! I took some NyQuil last night to try and kick the last of my cough and get a good night sleep. I woke up in that hazy fog and it was in it all day. Nutrition was terrible. I snacked on junk food all day. I just couldn’t seem to get full, and nothing was working to curb the cravings. It had all the markings of a bad day. But I knew I needed to just at least start the workout and see how it went. I opted to do the workout on the treadmill to make sure I kept a consistent pace.…

Should mental health off days be a thing?
Mental health off days are something I go back and forth about. The saying of “You will never regret a workout” or “you will never regret a run” are usually something I usually buy into. Usually if I am having an off day, or just a rough day. A workout helps. It turns the entire day around. Discipline over motivation is also something I live by. Your future self will thank your past self. I am still very much a believer in that. HOWEVER, I am also a believer in listening to your body. Your body includes your mind. Check in with your realistically. Do you not want to do…

Easy miles are getting harder.
We have hit the turning point in training where my former hard pace to hit is now my easy pace and it’s hard to hit again. The easy miles are getting harder. I failed on my long run today. But I believe I failed for good reason. My body is running on empty. Little sleep, sickness and high stress. I decided that the current stress on my body was enough, it didn’t need the long run stress on top of that. Getting better at listening to my body. I did get out for three miles. It was supposed to be an easy run. Goal was to keep the heart rate low.…

No Voice and Urgent Care
Welp the long run today didn’t happen. I officially have no voice, which I think is from stress and not from getting or being sick. I started losing my voice yesterday and it’s pretty much completely gone this morning. My poor toddler woke up feeling worse than the last few days. Instead of a run I took him for a long walk so he could take a nap in the stroller. I was planning to get my long run in a little later in the day. When my toddler woke up from his nap he was grabbing at his ears. Off to urgent care we went. Ended with a double…
