Race Recap Turkey Trot!
Race recap! I should have ran with my phone or had someone take pictures!
I was actually a little nervous for this race. I went back and forth a lot between running with family or running it to the best of my ability. At the end I decided I would run by feel and not look at my watch.
We had about three different sicknesses going through our house leading up to the raze. I had some post nasal drip and couch, and was up all night with a toddler who was throwing up and had a slight fever. Still not sure if it was something he ate or the flu. Not a great lead up to the race, but I still wanted to try my best.
We arrived at the race about 30mins early. Had time to walk around and check out the area. I learned the day before that it was a bridge run. I haven’t run any hills in my training, Florida training is nice and flat. I guess except for this race! I should have checked that out!!
When it was time to start and they began ushering everyone to the start line. It was a little bit chaos. I ended up being able to sneak in my the 10min/mile pace start. I was hoping to start a little further ahead than that, but with the amount of people we were lucky to get that close to the front.
Mile Breakdown!
Mile 1 was weaving in and out of people. It also reminded how much I missed racing! The whole atmosphere is something I have missed a lot! Mile 1 included the first hill up the bridge. It surprisingly felt pretty good.
Mile 2 was the downhill leaving the bridge and out to the turn around. This mile obviously felt the best. I felt great and that I could have run at that speed forever.
Then Mile 3 came. It was back up the bridge. I made it half way up the hill and then I struggled. I had to walk/run the rest of the hill. The final mile was a struggle!
Overall, I was pretty happy with my race. I averaged 8:41 pace, based on the number chip time from the race. That is the best 5k I have run in yearrrssss, so I am proud that I have kept up with consistent training.
This race has given me the push to keep going! Keep consistent training and add in more consistent lifting. AND add in hills! I need to do some research and add in a hill workout at least every other week! It’s good for the body, and any surprise race hills!
