Workout in the Humidity
I am solo parenting it for a couple of days, so I only had a few options for my speed workout. I could run in the morning on the treadmill before the kids get up. Or wait until after my oldest preschool class so my mom could watch them while I ran outside. I picked the second option. It was nice to run outside and not on the treadmill. But it was very hot and humid around 11 when I started. We were blessed with a few days of low humidity and then it came back strong this weekend. My splits were actually pretty good considering the weather. I slowed…

Long Morning Walk
Decided to not push it today with anything more than a walk. The kids are feeling a little better, but my stomach and head are a little off. I want to make sure I do all I can to stay in front of the sickness. I opted for a long walk today instead of a run. I was supposed to do a 30-45min recovery run. With skipping the long run yesterday a recovery run wasn’t really necessary. Hoping that I wake up tomorrow feeling better. Tomorrow I just have cross training on the schedule so it’s one more day of optional rest before my next schedule speed work. I want…

Two Sick Kids & 3 Mile Run
Morning started with two sick kids and ended with a 3 mile run. We woke up to one child with a bad fever and one with a mild one. There must be something going around. It’s been a rough couple days in our house. I’m ready for sleep again! I laid around with the kids for most of the day. Lots of extra cuddles and attention. I planned on a five mile long run this morning, but mom duty was needed instead. When I was able to get out for a run, I didn’t want to push it too much in the heat. It’s hard to judge if you are…

Morning Tempo Run
Got out earlier for a morning tempo run this morning. I have 30minutes total with a 15min tempo in the middle. Goal was 9:40 pace for the tempo. I failed that again. However I felt strong. I did have to walk some of the cool down. If I stayed on the appropriate pace I probably would have been able to finish the full cool down. Either way I am happy with the effort today. I am starting to think I was a little off with my time trial based on my workout efforts. The times I’m running feel hard but not impossible. This could be for multiple reasons. During the…

Rough Day
Today was beyond a rough day. After being up all night with a screaming toddler, I decided it wasn’t smart to try and add on a run today. I opted for a long walk to let the kids sleep. A 5 mile loop was the result. Tomorrow is a new day. Saying all the prayers and crossing all the fingers that tonight is a better night in our house! Four Mile Easy Run
Today called for a four mile easy run. Is there such a thing as a pace coach? Because I need one. I know my paces and I wear a watch that tells me my pace. But I still can’t seem to run easy. I’m mad at myself for running too fast for this easy run. Today I did four miles. First I debated switching an active rest day to today, or even taking it completely off. I was up early with a toddler, who also appears to be getting sick. I was feeling really tired physically and mentally all afternoon. I decided since it was an easy run and the…

First Interval Workout
First Interval Workout in the books! 4×400 with 400 Recovery. I was supposed to hit 8:20 pace. Which as you can tell was a MAJOR fail. Next week when I do this workouts, I will probably adjust the pace a little and I will force myself to hit them for at least the first couple. As you can tell from the splits the recovery time got longer as the reps went on. This was because the reps felt harder and I needed a walking recovery instead of a jogging recovery. Overall I am happy and surprised with the workout. I didn’t think I could sustain that pace yet for that…

Project Fast 5k – The Start
First Time Trial Post HERE I woke up early to kick start the new training plan. I guess you could say I am excited. I have decided for this training block I am going to substitute my off days with active recovery. This will include a mix between peloton classes (walk/run, recovery low impact bike) and longer walks. Right now I believe that is what is best, but I will listen to my body along the way and make adjustments. I have a full draft of my training plan until a 5k on Thanksgiving. The first week is finalized, and depending on how it does I will finalize the following…

Time Trial: The Starting Point!
Time trial morning. I did a four minute warm up. A 3.11 mile run (a mistake when I created the workout!) Then a 10min mostly waking cool-down. It felt good and hard at the same time. The first half felt great. The second half felt hard but I still felt strong. I did stop for two or three very quick walk breaks when I felt like I couldn’t sustain the pace. I need to get better at just slowing down the pace instead. There was some obstacles on the path because of the hurricane winds from the previous two days, so I had to slow down a few times for…
