Running Safety Must Haves

Running safety is an extremely important topic. There have been way too many stories of women attacked or almost attached while running in recent news. It is unfortunate, but if you are a runner, especially female, you need to think about safety when out on the run.

Recent articles HERE and HERE. These are just a few of way too many.

You can find a blog post all about running safety tips HERE

This posts is all about running safety must haves. Your first step is to figure out when and where you are running and then assess what safety equipment is needed. For example, will it be dark, will you be alone, is the area lite and populated.

Below you will find links to some of the must have safety equipment, in my opinion. If you have others, leave them in the comments!

Self-Defense & Identification:

Self-Defense Equipment – I have used many options. I like GoGuarded Ring the best. It allows my hands to still be free to hold my visibility lights or water bottle. Code: RUNLIFTBALANCE will get you 10% off.

Road ID Bracelet – Identification on your wrist or shoe. They have many different options and materials. You can also link medical information!

Personal Safety Alarm – When activated this sends out a high pitched alarm and strobe lights.

Being Seen in the Dark!

Knuckle Lights – These are lights you grip in your hands. I like these because they give you complete control over where the light is going.

Reflective Bands – These are a more budget friendly option. They are reflective bands you can wear on your arm, wrist, or ankle.

Visibility Lights – I prefer clip on lights when I run in the morning. I have two, one I attach to my first or sports bra and one I run with in my hand.

Headlamp – Using a headlamp keeps you hands free and make sure the ground in front of your eyes is brights and visible.

Light Vest – This is a must if you are running close to roads in dusk or the dark. Cars will be able to see you from a distance.

Reflective Vest – A little more budget friendly and another great option.

Reflective Vest Option 2 – Another thiner option of a reflective vest. A higher price point than the one above.

Hearing Your Surroundings!

Open Ear Headphones – I switched to these headphones this year and they are amazing! You can listen to you favorite music or podcast, but still hear everything around you!

Carry Your ID & Phone!

FlipBelt – Lets you safely carry your phone and ID!
