Should mental health off days be a thing?

Mental health off days are something I go back and forth about. The saying of “You will never regret a workout” or “you will never regret a run” are usually something I usually buy into.

Usually if I am having an off day, or just a rough day. A workout helps. It turns the entire day around.

Discipline over motivation is also something I live by. Your future self will thank your past self. I am still very much a believer in that.

HOWEVER, I am also a believer in listening to your body. Your body includes your mind. Check in with your realistically. Do you not want to do your workout because you are being lazy, or is there a lot more to the puzzle.

I took yesterday off and just did a short walk at night with the kids. It was needed. I woke up with the intention of running easy miles. I checked in with myself. I’m physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. Outside things have caused extra stress and my body is just tired. I decided that a walk with the kids and a short 10min slow bike ride is just what I needed. Enough to feel like I did something, but not enough to stress my body even more.

I finished the night with some pizza and a few drinks it was everything I needed. I will go to bed early and get back to it tomorrow with a solid speed workout.
